Ferdinand Berthoud, clock and watch maker of the king (1727 - 1807) " Berthoud belongs to the 3 great figures of the clock industry along with Abraham Louis Breguet and Antide January; however, in recent times he has fallen a little out of the public's memory which is unfortunate. Berthoud produced some of the first and the best marine clocks which were designed and buitlt to make known longitude at sea. In my childhood home we had a prototype of one of Berthoud's marine chronometers (my father is a clock restorer of some renown) and this was a source of family pride. I recently noted when consulting files a true aesthetic resemblance between our control board and his marine chronometer. The images of childhood mark us forever!"
